What do Photos Reveal?

Introduction

Photos appear to be an exact depiction of reality. However, they show only an aspect of an event. The photographer selects that aspect and also decides where to stand and where to point the camera. If using a photo as a source, it is important to consider who took the photo, when, and why.

What a photo can reveal is demonstrated here using the example of a picture taken in Baden-Baden on 10 November 1938.
