What can we see?

The men being led away

A procession of men in a street: civilians in rows of three, flanked on both sides by men in uniform. Passers-by stare at them from the side of the road. The men being led away are generally fairly elderly and they have on winter coats; many are also wearing suits and ties. It is striking that, unlike the onlookers, the men are not wearing hats – this is part of their humiliation.

They are Jews who were arrested after the pogrom and are now being paraded through the town.
