The men leading the Jews away are almost all in uniform. Most of them are wearing the black uniform of the SS. Armbands with a swastika are visible on their left arms. Some of the uniformed men are wearing helmets. These men are members of the urban police. They give the event a semblance of legality. There are also three men in plain clothes. These men are most probably officials from the Secret State Police (Gestapo).
We can assume that additional Gestapo officials have joined the spectators to observe reactions to what is happening.
